Quiet Time Tools: Why I Love My New Bible Case

Every morning, I settle into my cozy spot on the couch with my Bible, my journal, and my beloved cup of coffee. It’s a moment I look forward to, a quiet practice that helps me enjoy God’s peace and prepare my heart for the day ahead. But just as I’d begin to sink into that space, my eyes would land on the old planner case I’d been using as a Bible cover—tattered and flimsy. One of those quiet time tools that clearly wasn’t doing its job.

Instead of settling in, I’d get distracted by the nagging thought: “I really need to do something about this.”

The Right Quiet Time Tools Matter More Than You Think

There’s a phrase in Luke 12 that caught my attention recently: “Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out…”

“Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will never fail, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys.” ~ Luke 12:33 (NIV)

Jesus is clearly talking about eternal treasure, the kind that moths and time can’t touch. But that phrase stayed with me. Purses that will not wear out.

It made me think about the tools we use daily, what we invest in them, and how we take care of them.

Because here’s the thing: I’ve had my Bible for 29 years. It’s filled with dated notes, underlined verses, and the history of my relationship with God. This Bible has been with me through seasons of joy, heartbreak, growth, and surrender. It’s a treasure. And I plan for it to last my lifetime.

But I need to protect it well. I was using a makeshift case that did not fit well and was only providing mediocre protection. And every day, I saw the wear and had that quiet thought that whispered again: “I need to do something about this.”

Choosing Quiet Time Tools That Honor What Matters

When I found a Bible case that felt like a fit—beautiful, sturdy, made with care—it wasn’t just about looks. It was about protecting my Bible. This is the treasured book that’s held my story for nearly three decades. And choosing something that protects it well also helped me protect my quiet time—fewer distractions, more peace, and a clearer mind to meet with God.

I have come to believe this more and more: The tools we use matter. Not because they’re trendy or expensive, but because they either support our practices or steal from them.

We don’t always think of a Bible case or a journal as a spiritual choice. But when our tools are built to last, when they reflect beauty and bring calm, they give us one more reason to show up and be with God. And that’s never wasted.

An Invitation

Is there something in your spiritual rhythm that needs protecting?
Something that’s nagging at you during your quiet time, calling for just a little intention?

It might not be a Bible case for you. Maybe it’s clearing a space on your nightstand, finding a pen that doesn’t skip, or deleting that one app that distracts you.

Whatever it is, I hope you’ll consider taking one step toward protecting your quiet time with God. Sometimes a small shift makes room for a deeper connection.
