I still remember the frustrating morning I realized some precious insights were getting lost in the pages of my spiral notebooks. That’s what led me to shift how I journal and to discover the best journaling supplies for Christian women who want their quiet time to be both meaningful and manageable. These tools have made journaling more functional and beautiful. But most importantly, they’ve helped me stay connected to God in a deeper way.
That morning, I was writing about something I felt God was showing me, and it stirred a memory of an old journal entry. I wanted to go back and see if those words from the past connected with what He was speaking to me in the present. But after flipping through page after page, unable to remember when I wrote it, I felt disheartened. Something important was there…I just couldn’t find it.
And then, like a firework in my mind, an idea sparked, and I knew it was from God. I needed to begin organizing my journaling so I could keep track of the treasures He was giving me. That idea completely transformed the way I approached journaling.
At first, I tried different methods like three-ring binders and even taping pages into my spiral notebooks. And then my practice grew into a way to keep my writing easy to return to when God wanted to weave together something He had spoken before with what He was speaking now.
Best Journaling Supplies for Christian Women: Starting with the Journal
At the heart of my journaling system is a disc-bound journal. Unlike a traditional notebook, this style lets you rearrange pages, create specific sections, store past entries, and add fresh ones as you grow. It’s journaling with breathing room…flexible enough to match the ebb and flow of your spiritual life.

With a disc-bound system you can keep the same beautiful cover and just refresh the pages inside. Durable, customizable, and adaptable…it’s a journaling approach that grows with you.
Just like each of us is uniquely made by God, our journals can reflect that uniqueness, too. Scripture reminds us:
“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made…” Psalm 139:14 (NIV)
Over the years, I’ve created sections for prayer lists, Scriptures, music that moved my heart, and quotes from books that I wanted to remember. Your journal doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s. It’s a space that reflects your walk with God…whether you’re in a season of praying for others, diving into Bible studies, or simply noticing His presence in art, music, or even your garden.
Best Journaling Supplies for Christian Women: Refills and Customization
The next must-have supply is refill inserts. I recommend archival-quality paper because the words you write matter. Unlike the spiral notebooks I used years ago (where the ink is already fading), these pages preserve your thoughts and prayers.
Another tool I love is the disc-bound hole punch. This is what makes full customization possible. Over the years, I’ve printed out prayers, quotes, or devotionals that really touched me, punched the pages, and slipped them right into my journal. It’s a tangible way to keep God’s voice close instead of letting those treasures get lost in a stack of papers.
To keep everything organized, I use simple tab dividers to mark each section. They make it easy to flip between prayers, reflections, or whatever God is speaking in this season. And because life is always changing, you can rearrange or rename those tabs as the message of your season shifts. God is always doing a new thing, and this flexible system gives you space to respond and organize in a fresh way, while staying rooted in Him.
“See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?” Isaiah 43:19 (NIV)

I recommend using disc binder rings that are between one to two inches in size. If you’re not familiar with them, disc rings are round, sturdy discs that hold your journal pages together allowing you to easily add, remove, or rearrange pages without damaging them. The larger the disc, the more pages your journal can hold.
There are so many beautiful color options available. God is the source of all beauty, and I believe honoring Him includes embracing beauty in the everyday. Aesthetics can awaken creativity and reflect the goodness of His creation. So go ahead and have a little fun here!

Helpful Accessories That Bring Joy
A couple of simple extras that make journaling easier and a little more life-giving:
Pocket Dividers: Perfect for holding items you don’t want to punch, like notes, photos, or cards.
Page-Finder Tabs: These help me quickly find the next blank page, so I can pick up where I left off without flipping endlessly.
These accessories create a sense of order. And sometimes, that sense of order is exactly what helps us notice God’s peace in the midst of a busy day.
Writing Tools That Inspire Your Quiet Time
My obsession with pens and sticky notes began in the 1980’s thanks to Lisa Frank, Inc., but these are my current-day journaling favorites:
Gel Bible Highlighters: They don’t bleed through, even on thin Bible pages. Just a word of warning…they’re so good your kids may “borrow” them for school!
No-Bleed-Through Pens: I love using at least two different colors in my journaling. For example, I’ll write my initial thoughts in one color on the left side, and then later, add reflections or insights in another color on the right. This helps me see how God’s Word continues to speak over time.
Transparent Sticky Notes: These let you add notes over text while still being able to see the words underneath and are great for Bible study and journaling alike.
You most likely already have a unique style to your note taking and writing. I’ve found that using different pen colors or emphasizing a message with a sticky note makes it easier to notice what stands out when I go back to reread entries. It’s just another way of seeing how God is always weaving His story through ours.

Journaling Is About Connection, Not Perfection
At the end of the day, journaling isn’t about creating a flawless record. It’s about connection. It’s about having an ongoing conversation with God…hearing His voice of love over you, and in turn, learning more about who He has designed you to be.
“Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” Psalm 119:105 (NIV)
Journaling helps us notice that light in our everyday lives. And even more, as we revisit previous entries, we begin to connect the dots seeing how God’s messages to us over time form new layers of meaning.
Each moment of revelation is like another lamp along the path, another light showing us His way forward. Journaling becomes a way not only to capture God’s voice but to trace His faithfulness and direction as He continues to guide us.
A Reflection for You
I’d love to invite you to reflect:
Which journaling tool could help you deepen your connection with God in this season?
Whether it’s trying a disc-bound journal, adding dividers to track your messages and prayers in a specific area of life, or simply writing in another color ink, each tool can become part of your unique walk with Him. This isn’t about making a page look pretty…it’s about spending time with God and remembering the ways He speaks to you.
